On its very first day in power in the Senate, Republican leaders pushed a plan to weaken Social Security. This, of course, was never part of their announced campaign last year. For these are stealth politicians, connivers of the worst sort, doing the bidding of corporate heads and wealthy financial gurus.
We the people seem compelled to adjust our behaviors to accept this. The press here is complicit. In fact, has the press not, in effect, become colluders in simply a wealth-mongering regime? Ah, the press. The American press is in the worst state since the early days of Reagan, when a Democrat-cum-Republican slinked into office and began the largest assault on the concept of government-as-good in recent history. Mitch McConnell was a beneficiary of the Reagan election. Many Republicans were. But must we simply kow-tow to them?
Fortunately, the Senate has rules against democracy by fiat. Let us hope the Democrats will stand up to this anti-people, Republican-led movement. I believe they will!
